My commitment to education extends far beyond the concert stage. I held a position as a Graduate Teaching Fellow at the UO School of Music and Dance, mentoring and instructing both undergraduate and graduate students; taught a creative music class at Metro Montessori/ChildPeace Elementary School in Portland; taught improvisation at the Oakwood School in Los Angeles; served as an intersession instructor at CalArts; serve as a guest teaching artist at Lakeridge High School; and am a Portland Public Schools official Artist-in-Residence at the Sellwood School. I also specialize in private lessons, bringing an integrated approach that offers wisdom from multiple aspects and fields of music as well as other disciplines and modes of thought, like psychology and neuroscience, Eastern philosophy, biology, and more. In the time since my studio has expanded in the last year, my students have earned a number of placements in regional competitions, including 3rd in trumpets at a Regional Solo/Ensemble Festival in Portland; and at Lakeridge High School, after one coaching of the Jazz Ensemble trumpets, the group placed 3rd at the Mt. Hood Jazz Festival, with the Wind Ensemble placing 2nd at their League Festival after intensive work with their trumpets.
I am 110% invested in the actualization of my students’ potential.
